Default Idles for 12 secs then dies, Is My PiggyBack dead ??

87' 951 w/
72lb injectors
SMT-5 PiggyBack contoller
Huntley Stage III MAF

I pulled the TB to replace the return spring & a week later the battery was dead so i jumped it & drove to work fine (5 miles).

After work, Battery was REALLY DEAD & i got a jump again. It started right up & idled, But the second i hit the throttle it would die.

Now it is home (towed) and i can get it to start and run rough but it always dies after 12 seconds, i can rev it now, but it sputters.

My PB controller is not reponding when i plug in the Laptop, but it is getting power.

Did the Jump kill my PiggyBack?
Is there a way to bring them back from the dead or test them.
I am going to test my MAF tonight.

I checked the following:
Fully charged battery
Alternator (car idles w/o a battery)
Fuel pump (preasure reads 45psi when cranking & plugs were wet when pulled after cranking w/o spark)
Replaced DME relay
Checked fuses
Coil / Distributor & wires
New spark plugs
Unpluged TPS (same results, dead after 12 secs)
Check ref sensors visually (& tach moves)
Checked vacuum lines
made sure i didn't leave a towel in the intake (did that once)

I do have the SMT-5 & i wouldn't mind picking up a Vitesse SMT-6, but i want to make sure this is the problem.

Thank you.

If you can no longer connect to the SMT unit (assuming you are using the same laptop & cable that worked before), there is a good chance the unit got damaged. The SMT5 had a problem with "low volt" battery, where the unit experiences a "memory loss", however you can still connect to it. In your case, it appears that the damage is beyond the "memory loss".

Remove the SMT5 and install the shorting plug in its place, does it make a difference.

To be clear, the "memory loss" was experienced with "some" of the SMT5. Problem was resolved with the SMT6 and newer versions.

By "Shorting Plug" Do you mean to simply reconnect the MAF ?

No, with the SMT products there should be a plug that allows you to jumper the smt unit so it runs like it would just off of the DME/KLR.

....Is your MAF disconnected?!

My used SMT did not come with a jumper. but i think i can make one,.

The car was the same with the MAF disconnected, forgot to mention that.

John, The low voltage senario seems to make sense. Special Tool may have been right when he told me that instead of installing the SMT5 i should place it under my tire & then go buy an SMT6
