Alright, so the a/c fuse blows the second you turn it on. I have it narrowed down to something in the compressor itself. Is there a replacable clutch on the compressor that could be the issue? I really don't want to have to take the whole compressor off, since then I'd have to get refrigerant. Any ideas or possible causes?
Anyone know the price of a decent compresser or just its cluch?
Thanks!

Ok, so I just read that there is a switch inside the compressor that will not allow it to turn on if the refrigerant is low. Would that cause a blown fuse? What would cause an immediet blow fuse the second you turn on the A/C?

I have a 87 944s that i did a recharge on yesterday. The levels on the ac charge gauge looked good and the system seemed to be working fine while idling in the driveway. Once on the road, a different story. Less than 10 minutes in the fuse blew and the comrpressor shuts down. This happened a couple of yrs ago when it was recharged. Could too much r-134 in the system cause this? What's strange is that the car could idle for 30 min and be fine but on the road, the fuse blows???

Check the resistance of the ac clutch. It should be around 3 ohm if I remember correctly. The voltage will come up when it is driven and it may be just enough to draw more current I=E/R and blow the fuse. This happened to me and I had to replace the clutch/compressor.

When the clutch goes bad it starts to blow the fuse. Replacement clutches are around $200 and do not require the system to be recharged.
To check for a seized compressor get under there and see if the center of the pulley still turns.
