Blackwater

I'm putting on new water hoses today and I found what appears to be a hairline crack in the water tube (Hard pipe between thermostat and radiator) on the radiator end of the pipe. The pipe is kinda gunked up a bit and the hose shows rusting that lines up with what may be a crack in the pipe. Prices for the "tube" appear to be $30 to $65.

Are these pipes subject to failure?
Will I ever get a break?
Should I give the UPS driver a christmas bonus?

I think ALL 951 owners need a mental health forum! I mean...aren't we all crazy for loving these cars the way we do...and for the $$$$ we spend maintaining and upgrading them? At the very least, we're all glutton for punishment. Personally wouldn't want it any other way.
