I can get it out in less than 10 seconds, but you need a special tool

the dust cover goes in front. and for me a short flat screwdriver is the way to go

LMAO lart. Yeah I got it using clarks method of finger painting and rotation, worked flawlessly. I used a stubby #2 phillips on top, and a stubby #2 on the bottom but used the other trick here of using a short crowbar to wedge the screwdriver in and turned it. Great suggestion whoever that was. Cheers.

The cap and cover come out as one piece, put it on a work bench and just remove the cap. I find this method handy, since when you install the cap back onto the housing, you can see exactly where the cap screws catch onto the right points....

Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to remove it.
Amen to that. I struggled for ages trying to get the bloody thing back on, with a brand new dust gasket. I finally cracked it, pulled the entire cover off, and did it standing over the car. HEAPS easier.
