that's awesome, though it's a weird dyno. 5k rpm to 6500 rpm only?

Yeah, I've never seen one done like that either. Working with a lot of my testers I've had some very strange conversations with dyno owners. I suppose this particular fellow is just trying to show people thier peak HP/TQ and nothing else. From other dyno guys I've talked to this is probably because he's a tuner, and just won't cooperate with any other tuner. I've given dyno guys specific information about how I wanted a dyno done, and they will do just the opposite. It's frustrating sometimes. When I'm doing development, and the volunteer tester of a particular chip gets free product for doing a dyno for information I can tune from, and I get bogus information it just sets back the development process.

But this wasn't a development dyno, Van just decided to dyno the new chip, and this is what he got, peak numbers. Oh well. I'm sure someone else will dyno them along the way and post something up.

Regards,
Russell

Well as the story goes, about 5 years ago I developed the 951MAX chip for my own car. Though it wasn't called that. I got a 951, got into PCA DE events and wanted more. Tried Autothority, Welts, Guru which were all that were available at the time, and just wasn't happy with any. Each had their strong points and weaknesses it seemed. Having a background in engine building years ago and being in the computer industry for 30 years I just decided to make my own chips. So that development took place on my own car, never thought about marketing it. Then life happened, sold that car, moved on, then last year a friend of mine and fellow PCA'er asked if I would make chips for his car, so I did. He said they were better than anything he'd tried, and I should market them. So I did, and here we are.

After the releae of the 951MAX chips, other guys wanted me to do chips for their cars, 944S, S2, NA, etc. Well I don't have those cars, so I had to depend on volunteers to test my mappings on their cars, get dynos and/or logging info to me for the tuning process. I wish I could afford to buy one of every series of Porsche made so I could use it for tuning, it would sure speed up the development process, but I don't have 100K to shell out for that. So as I get into new series I'll just have to keep doing it the way I'm doing it. But it is slow, becaue I'm working on someone else's car, I have to take small steps and get lots of feedback from each change so I know exactly where I am on that series, I can't put a volunteer's car at risk. If it were my car, I would try to kill it. A couple of times I ran my old 951 at 30psi just to see if I could kill it, these really are touch cars, barked the wheels shifting to 5th! Made a lot of noise though, it didn't like it.

But anyway that's where free product for info comes in, that's how I get development work done. And I must say, I have been blessed with some of the most wonderful people to work with in the development cycle. I love this community.

Regards,
Russell
