Unhappy synchro going bad ?

i've recently noticed that it grinds shifting into second gear, and there's also a whining sound when accelerating in second gear. this affects second gear only.

when i shift from first to third, and then to second, it doesn't grind.

is it possible that the second gear synchros have gone bad? what are the symptoms of synchros going bad? i thought the turbo-s had stronger first and second gear synchros.

ah crap. so i've been reading up on this and it doesn't seem like an easy do-it-yourself job. questions;

1) how much would it cost to have the tranny rebuilt properly with porsche parts?
2) how much is a 951 lsd tranny in good condition?
3) would it be worthwhile to swap with a torsen/gleason lsd instead?

i'm surprised there's no writeup regarding this.

I've made a few posts on helping re-do these trannies in the past. Parts cost depends on if you just wanna fix the problem or completely re-do it. If you swing a lsd unit do it while its apart. You may be able to find a good used one reasonable, most people who will do one of these trannies demand premium labor rates.
