Default Interested in Running the Bonneville Salt Flats?

A group of us with AKA Rally are renting out the Bonneville Salt Flats on July 16th 2007. We're trying to get a feel to see how many people would be interested in joining, as we're considering opening this up to non rally participants for a nominal fee. This is one of those once in a lifetime experiences as you can come run your street car without all the usual club fees and long waits of a normal salt flats event. The salt will be graded and prepped, "track" insurance with on site medical, 2+ mile straight away with official speed traps so you know your "top" speed. All participants will be extensively filmed and a short documentary style film will be released shortly following the event. If you're interested or have any questions, please post or shoot me a PM.

July 16th, we'd love to have you join us Joe!

If not, I'll be in Vegas for a night or two if you wanna meet up

Fyi, my 951 will not be joining us, I'll be in my 5 series wagon.

I won't be able to bring my 951 but I do have my 1988 VW Fox wagon (that I can drive so I can at least watch...but I do wonder how fast it can get...)

What's the fee look like? I MIGHT have my 951 here and ready to go.

Other then your normal seat belts are there any safety requirements needed in order to run, tech insp? In 98 I went to the Silver State classic in Neveda which required you to have a 4 point rollbar and 5 point harness. It was 90 miles of closed highway which was alot of fun. Reno

Sounds like a boatload of fun there Mike. It would be nice to see Joe and Guns and a few others there. What chance the 'Tool'??? Get him out of his dyno-mind and see just what his jalopy can do? Be nice to see the acceleration as well as the top end results.

I was just talking to Lart about this yesterday.
He is sending me a Turbo S box that I will do a custom 5th gear in.
I cannot go this year, though - 2008.
I am already going to the fest and the Macungie truck show, wife's pissed.

Hey Tool! How about if you and I team up and run a 951 in a couple of Open Road Races?

Our cars are galvanized, we don't need to worry about that.

I suppose the salt is corrosive to the cars, but this is the middle of the high desert. I doubt it gets more than 10" of rain per year. It basically is a huge sand pit, just not sand.

Anyway, google it and a bunch of stuff will come up (incase you didn't already know about it).

I've driven my cars for years in the winter up here without issues, just gotta make sure you keep stuff clean/oiled.

This will be an event for STREET cars

The Fee right now is ~$500 due to the $20k track rental + Insurance. Of course, the more people we have interested the less the cost.

Anders, I'm planning on doing some OOR events out west once the new turbo motor is finished

They are a blast, I've been navigating in three events and been over 200 mph. It is pretty much an awesome thing to do. Send me a PM if you feel like putting a plan together! I want to drive in at least one event myself, but not in any of the slow classes - needs to be 200 mph plus.
