Default Loctite 270

Anyone know where I find this Loctite. It is spec'd for the m6 bolts that hold the covers above the crank.

I think they dropped the numbers a few years back, it was blue IIRC. you need the med strength. Also the sealant porsche specs for sealing the girdle and oil pump is actually anaerobic sealer, used on trans cases diffs and some GM cam towers according to loctite's people

Actually, they still make Loctite 270 according to loctite's website, and it shows up at a few random places via google. It's a green threadlocker, very high strength, very thin with a wicking property for use on assembled fasteners, and withstands the oil/heat of the crankcase. The FSM calls for it for the bolts that hold the covers at the bottoms of the cylinder on 104mm blocks. Loctite 574 (orange) is the sealant for the girdle and pump, and is much easier to find (Pelican, etc.).

Tom, this is where I got both the 270 and 574 http://gsgindustrial.com/. FWIW, the specs on the 270 (green) are virtually the same as the readily available 271 (red). It seems 271 is a US version, while 270 is a ROW version.

Thanks Alex, just ordered it from a place called R.S. Hughes -- apparently a national chain, with an outlet one city over from me. Does this mean you also pulled those covers off inside the crankcase? If so, were yours filled with crud too?

I am ashamed to say I did not pull those covers. Looks like your OCD is bigger than mine!

Did you see the pics of what I found under the covers! And, yes, big OCD. It may never run, but it'll be clean.

I saw the pics you posted, and wish I hadn't! I'm sure mine is no better. There are probably homeless people living in there! Oh well, I'll make sure to do it next time I'm in there .
