And now the bad news….
If you had that much coolant in the sump then you were running your engine with only coolant as a lubricant. Oil is lighter than water (and coolant) so as little as a couple of quarts of coolant will displace the oil away from the oil pick up.
At the very least it needs to be flushed with oil a bunch of times. At worst you have added a lit of wear to your bearings and cam train.
Sorry about that!

You would not believe the pain that having the wrong dip stick in the engine has caused me. The shop told me they put a mark on this dipstick where the oil is SUPPOSED to be. Well, apparently that was not the correct place!

I have to admit, I am still confused here. You put in 6.5 quarts of oil after the change, pulled out either 8 or 10 quarts and it was coolant mixed with oil. You found oil 'filling the head ports' when you pulled the manifold, but all is well? How did the oil get in the head ports? If you drained the oil during the head gasket change, how did enough new coolant get in the oil for you to notice it in the oil change? You drove it for 150 miles and all was well, but then had white smoke pouring out of the exhaust because you overfilled the oil?
This isn't adding up for me. I would keep a very close eye on your oil and on your coolant level...you may still have a problem.
