Default So whats a good handling car?

A little off topic, but i thought i'd share my thoughts.

An old rear wheel drive Toyota corolla... ae86 if you know the chassis code or simpling one that was built between 1985-1987 IIRC, is a load of crap. They come stock with skinny tires, solid rear axle, depending on the trim (SR5, GT-S) one has rear drum brakes, the other rear disc (solid rotors) and an LSD. GT-S engine has 113hp and the SR5 has about 75hp.

I was chatting with a corolla fiend online, he said he had a corolla and a mustang, the mustang is for drags, the corrolla drifts and grips when he needs it to.

I have a corolla. They suck, the brakes fade quickly (and im not a brake fiend mind you), underpowered, not enough traction at times (even with my 205 50r15 wheels with $90 tires)... they understeer, they oversteer, and not at high rates of speed mind you.

Any of our stock 951's can easily stomp on the corolla. Yes i know, im comparing a $35,000 dollar car to a $6,000 car.

So what does this mean?

If he were to try to follow me on a windy road, he'd crash. I know a few people who were simply driving too fast (faster than what they could handle) and ended up crashing.

But for God's sake, a COROLLA IS NOT A GOOD CAR! Unless you want something slow, reliable, and if you do an engine swap... it'll be decent for drifting at least.

TO make the corolla as fast and as good of handling as a 944, you'd be spending a very decent amount of money...

I don't know about you guys, but these 944's are quite nice... just think the offset wheels should be wider on both front and rear....

Maybe i should stop comparing trash to my non-trash car... oh well.

S2000's are slow by the way ;-)

This is a bizarre thread, has somebody been smoking substances?? Come on.. come clean, even Bill Clinton admitted it................
Why are you so obsessed with Toyota Corrollas'?? They are commuter cars designed to get families from one place to another. Porsches are sports cars designed to accelerate fast, corner fast and be pleasurable to drive.
Now put that spliff out and book yourself into Betty Ford!

Haha its off topic. sorry :-P no smoking of any substance involved. Just some ranting.

I just hate how some people go off about their car when their car is a pure economy car meant for people who commute and dont want to be driving to work every day in their Mercedes-Benz or whatever (if they even have one).

Boasting that your old Corolla handles outstanding is great and all, but the 944 turbo in its stock form can out-handle a modified corolla.

Im simply trying to say that there's idiots out there. :-P

Well, reminds me of this guy that had a Camira of all things and was trying to impress people talking about his modification plans. I think he'd been reading some BMW specs i a motoring magazine. He said the first thing he was going to do was to "naturally aspirate it"!

That's a hot mod right there...natural aspriation. I hear if you get the right stickers...it can put you +200hp in no time.

I thought about doing it to my Saturn SL1.

no it's not. a camry is like a bmw or merc compared to a camira. a camira is an old piece of crap made by holden in the 80s. it was a piece of crap when new, so you can imagine what a pile it is now (if you could even find one that still ran).

With questions like this, it's not surprising I skip over this forum.

Ae86 Corollas suck major @ss. I hate them. They are incredibly ugly, have horrible chassis', they make no power in stock or hell even modded form unless they have a motor swap. I guess in that regard, since everything about them sucks, you could say they are a nice, well rounded pile of trash. Except for the fact that they are RWD, the only reason anyone does anything at all with them is because of Initial D, otherwise this car would have disappeared with the other trash cars from the '80s. God I hate those cars! That being said, here's one godd@mn fast Corolla (3 rotor Mazda swap ~600whp): Link
