About 21k for a Quaife...but this would disqualify me from running PCA...there has to be a way!

Hey Gabe while your car is going to be amazing I would have thought it's uniqueness would have made it hard to put it in any class. I am not very familiar with the US class systems, but what would you be running in and against what sort of cars? Also if it means that you're running against other hybrids what regulations on the gearbox? You would bet that they're not all running stock.
I see on that Holinger link that they say they can convert gearboxes to sequential?

Patrick,

I'd be in GT1-R...think 993 or 996 GT1 and those are the kind of guys I'll be running against IF one ever shows up. For the most part I'll be running against stuff like that 700whp carbon fiber blue 911 monster that they featured in Excellence a few months back.

I know i'm not going to be super competitive but at the same time I want to be able to run a PCA event also. I'll get in touch with holinger and let everyone know what they say. I WANT PADDLE SHIFTS!

Gabe:

Trust me, there are PLENTY of fast cars that "show up" in GT-1. Cruise the Racing and DE forum and look for Norm Goldrich's car. One fast Porsche pusher.

Chris Prack is the builder of the blue monster you refer to. Ask him about development issues. Pure HP didn't win his driver any heats at the Sebring 48hr races. In time it should be a good car, but until it's sorted, and the driver is able to harness the car's potential, it will remain as potential. (No slam at Chris Prack at all, he runs a top Porsche shop and I have every confidence he'll get things straightened out. Nice guy too).

If you don't already have a copy of the PCA rulebook, I'd download one and go through it with a fine tooth comb. No sense in building a monster car if there's no place to play with it.

Ah Paddles, ok I'd forgotten you wanted them. Not sure if there's one place that you can get the whole thing done, but let us know on what Holinger or anyone else has to say. I actually prefer the gearshift process. Something more satisfying getting it just 'right'. Did you get that link with the RSR? As you can see I really like this system.

SeaCay: Yeah I didn't mean to neglect the superfast 911s running around in GT1 - just trying to give Partick the visual...GT1-R is pretty much the fastest and craziest group from what I understand.

I'm building it how I want it (closely to the actual GTRs) but at the same time I have to make certain compromises as if I build it how I want no one would let me run (in a class). So just with the motor alone I'm stuck into GT1 so those are the rules (downloaded pdf) I'm going by.

The only limitations I'm having is finding that line where I get to use Porsche based aftermarket stuff that will work and fit into the rules for our cars. Porsche didn't really do what they could have with these cars so that's my problem.

As far as being competitive, this will be setup for 80% track 20% street use, only problem is when i'm running against the GT1 guys, their cars are race only pretty much. But I do want to "measure up" to a 993/996 GT1 (street version) and see how my build compares to one, to me that's the ultimate test.

Not sure how you would make a G-50 tranny work, since the shifting linkage is out the nose of the transaxle (which if mounted in a 944, would face out the back of the car).

Got me on that one Solo, I've looked high and low, can't find anything. But whatever they did use there is a strong chance I can't use as even their block wouldn't be allowed by the PCA due to the fact it wasn't a production block. So the tranny was most likely not a Porsche unit.

So can't you run something no matter the production run, so long as it was on a Porsche car? Or does it have to be from a Homologated model? Where would a person run a GTR if they owned one?

Has to be production, PCA will allow Porsche Factory efforts as long as they have a log book dated before '99 but not after. But that's on a case by case basis.

Hell I think I'll just build it how I want and DE it and not race her.

I'll check on it, thanks Tommo. Got something more pressing in the works right now for suspension...hint hint to the 996 Cup cars...
