You ever get to Orlando???
The 10's in the rear are nice...they add a ****-ton of extra grip. I'm in Orlando occassionally. Less often lately, as my wife and I had our first born in December. This means we spend our free time changing diapers, etc. But it's well worth it. I'm already teaching the boy how to say Porsche.

Sorry to get OT, but does anybody ever organize south FL GTG's?

turboted - todd brings up a good point.. what ride hieght are you running with 10's on the rear? Mine is sitting just under 25" top of wheel well. I think what really matters is the wheel + tire profile. 225/50/16 = 24.85" dia., 265/35/18 = 25.3" dia., 285/35/18 = 25.85" a full inch over stock. I personally wouldn't go under a 35 on the profile. Still like to have a street ride to it.

I go by my tachometer for speeds. My speedo needle sticks a little bit, too, so that's also partially why. I just say, for every 1000 rpm, it's 10mph in 2nd, 15mph in 3rd, 20mph in 4th, and 26 mph in 5th. Those figures are all pretty close as fasr as my car is concerned; I've used roadside radars to check.

I'm currently running stock ride height. You are correct - what really matters is the wheel size + tire profile, or overall rolling diameter. But even an inch of difference in total rolling diameter does not dramatically affect speedo readings. In my case, by only 2% (or so).

You can't really say that a 30 series tire is better/worse than a 40 series tire without first knowing the tire's width. The profile number (30, 40, 50, etc.) reflects the percentage of the tire's overall width. So, a 30 series tire has a sidewall that is 30% the size of it's total width or contact patch.

I agree that on most setups, anything less than a 35 series tire will negatively affect ride quality. But, this depends on the overall width of the tire. Vipers, for example, run monster rear wheels like 12" wide. Here, a 30 series tire still allows for plenty of sidewall meat to absorb road bumps, etc.
