Default MAF induction noise

i gather it's normal for induction noise to increase greatly after a MAF install? i was kinda shocked.

Yeah, no barn door there to muffle the noise, or airbox. Plus the MAF is just a bigger hole. Most people say their turbo gets louder, but it's just the open induction system letting all the noise out.

Yes it kind of sounds like a turkey being strangled when you change gear. We have located our air filters down in front of the wheel inside the guard which quietens it down a tad.

now i have another problem...can't build any boost...and i mean *any*. won't go above atmospheric at all. what are the obvious things to check?

this is after a MAF/turbo install btw.

hmm...maybe the loud induction noise is another symptom of the same problem? i was worried that something got stuck in the compressor blades - haven't been able to get a look at those directly, but i checked the outlet from the turbo and there's no sign of any debris in there.

If you experience turkey gobble, why not increase the BOV capacity?

Check for vacuum leaks. The only way is to pressure test the system, from the turbo inlet to the head.

So Anders don't tell me 'Turkey gobble' is an actual phrase, or have we just invented it?

Vacuum cleaner??? You should only hear 2 things- loud whistling and BOV release upon shifting/ releasing throttle!

It is commonly used when it comes to describing lift off sound on turbocharged cars. The sounds comes from when the pressurized air has nowhere to go when the throttle plate is closed and it hits the turbo inlet. A BOV is only on a car for one reason - to dispose of the pressure causing this.

hmm...i did find a pinhole in the turbo/ic pipe but it's definitely not big enough to be causing this issue (it's also been there a long time by the looks of things).

Duct tape it and see if it makes a difference.

i will, but it won't. it literally is a pinhole...worn there by some previous twit leaving the water pipe hose clamp on top so that it has been rubbing on that pipe for years.
