As soon as you posted the wheel sizes (205 and 225) I knew they were not real Mg wheels. (sorry!) Your set is probably worth between $200 and $700usd. A real set is worth way more (~$1000-$1500+), although 20 yr old, hard, brittle Mg wheels are not the best wheels to run on the street.

Aluminum is actually quite flammable once the oxidized layer of thermite has been removed. Also, I don't think the Porsche aluminum wheels are pure aluminum. I am fairly certain they are an alloy, which may be why the wheel sample burned far better than the stock sample you had. Pure aluminum melts at just 660 Celsius.

I got $600 I believe for my set of 7j16 and 8j16 phones a year ago with no tires. It helped offset the cost of getting the 18" twists I have now. I think the upgrade cost me around $300 total plus cost of new tires. And yes, I consider them an upgrade even though they are not hollow spoke

Well I know what Keith Richards would do to that little pile.

 

Wow, I was really just kidding. However, what I meant is that when magnesium burns it is very hot with a white flash. When I was a kid a friend of mine shaved off a good sized pile and lit it during a film in science class...the whole class couldn't see for several minutes. The only reason he was caught was the huge bubble that melted on the lab table. I also had a friend of mine who bought a set of valve covers for his prostock ford..I told him I thought they were magnesium and he disagreed. He had to clearance them for the rockers which created a lot of dust. The dust ignited with sparks from a chop saw. Took several weeks for his eyebrows to grow back. Magnesium is fun.
