better to part or sell whole (951) engine?
I am about a week away from pulling this engine. It needed a new oil cooler. Any good guesses on the price differerence between parting and selling the engine whole? 98,000 miles.

I am just trying to pay bills. I bought a pair of the cars and am just in the process of parting it. I just know that it needed the new cooler seal. I haven't taken the chance to do the compression test. I will get to that when I get around to it.

Whatever is wrong w/ the oil cooler might be the deciding factor on selling the engine whole or in parts. If it's just a leaking housing seal/or someone caught mixing because the o rings are shot at first sight then the whole motor is worth money to somebody. If the o rings leaked to the point that there was a milkshake and someone drove it 'til they heard a rod knocking then, IMO, you're better off parting it.
Pull the drain plug, check the oil, and look for fillings...

Thanks. I am not able to get it running to the point that I can check for damage. I guess parting it will be the only option then because I can't sell an engine that may have the damage. I am guessing the kid I bought it from would have run it till milkshake. Thanks

Yeah I'd also recommend fixing the oil cooler and selling the engine as a whole. You should be able to fetch a pretty penny for it.
Good luck with everything.
