Default Has anyone upgraded thier antenna?

I bought a new radio, but the windshield antenna only picks up the strongest stations. I was looking for away to retrofit a better antenna and was wondering if anyone has done it already.

"Search" did not turn anythign up.

This would give a stock look and most likely better performance over the windshield antenna.

Did you make sure the antenna amplifier was receiving power?

How can you check and/or fix it? I was thinking about getting a new radio and antenna because my radio is having the same problems.

Pull out the radio and follow the antenna lead back a bit. You will find a small unit on the antenna lead with a wire coming out of it, that is the power lead for the antenna amplifier. A lot of people don't know what it is for so they leave it disconnected when they upgrade the radio. The windshield antenna will never be as good as an external antenna, but it should pull in all local stations.

Yeah, check that power wire. You will recieve almost nothing without the antenna amplifier hooked up. Its the little black wire attatched to the big black antenna wire.

I have a 968 antenna. My car had a hole from a factory, because it was fitted with a NMT wiring & antenna which was available for european market during the '80's.

Antenna can hardly seen from this very old picture, but i think it looks like it was factory installed

IIRC, The factory manual gives the dimensions where to drill the hole for the 968 antenna. rennbay.com also sells these.

I love the look of the 968 antenna but I could never bring myself to drilling a hole through the roof.

I'm the same way, at least until I have to pay $500 or however much to replace the antenna windshield. Then I'd be willing to do the 968 antenna.
