Post Cold air intake

OK, I need to replace my missing snorkel for my dedicated track car.
Are there any good after market cold air intakes? I'd like to pull air from the driver side fog light opening. Anyone fab a homemade solution?

Anyone looking to free up shelf space and part with a spare snorkel?

Thanks,
Bob

For a previous car I owned I used a pipe of 2.5" (although you'd want a bigger ID) ABS tubing and took a heat gun to it, molding the shape to fit down to my fog light. Then, I attached it to the TB w/ some rubber plumbing connectors from Home Depot. Whole thing cost me ~$10-15 and it worked as well as any aftermarket system.

Just a thought.

Searched their site and I could not locate it.
Do you have a link or can you tell me what better to look for?

Go to 951 general store then package deals, then turbo/MAF

Thanks, but I'm not running a MAF setup.
Need to stay PCA F class legal.

Cheers,
Bob

ADDENDUM to my previous post:

I don't know why I didn't mention this, but if I were making a CAI out of plastic tubing for our Turbos, I'd go with PVC instead of ABS. Both should work fine FOR THIS APPLICATION.

ABS w/ glass fiber or PVC additives would be even more ideal. Increased resilience at higher temps.

PVC should actually work better than the ABS, given that its melting temp is about 100* C higher than for ABS. I only initially used ABS on my N/A Cavalier for aesthetic reasons.

PVC would actually be a better choice IMHO b/c: it comes in a wider range of sizes, it's cheaper, and has a higher melting temperature. Mechanical property differences are not necessary here.

Both polymers can easily be heated up with a heat gun and manipulated to form the desired shape. ABS simply looks better IMO

Bob, I've been thinking of the same thing to keep my car legal for E stock. I put in a Kiss oil cooler so now the air in the driver-side fender is heated from the oil cooler.

I haven't started fabbing anything, but I've thought of cutting the snorkel somewhere behind the headlight and running a tube from the foglight area. Shouldn't be too hard to do but may need to pull the bumper cover off to get good access.

I certainly wouldn't worry about using heat-resistant tubing. That area of the car doesn't get hot.

Yes of course; my only concern was depending upon where you mounted it downstream. The closer to the turbo, the hotter it's gonna get. If it's a simple matter of plugging it into your rubber intake pipe, then definitely don't worry about it.

Thus, ABS and PVC will both work fine.

Awesome!!!

Pics???

I have been wanting to do the same, especially since my fog lights are out, but did not look like enough room to get down to the foglight area from the engine bay.

Unfortunately I never took any before I gave up the car to my sister (she immediately swapped back in the OE intake...girls...

The plumbing was quite possible for my '05 Cavalier; I haven't really looked at the 951 for clearance issues but I'm sure it can be done. The largest obstacle to overcome would be the HL stopper/bracket/thingy. MAF units requre the removal of this piece, and with it removed, installing a CAI would be very feasable I should think.

Once I get home I'll see what spare tubing I have and check out plumbing routes.

How does that affect things?

Just run the plastic tubing from the MAF...or am I missing something??
