Default 944T vs 3.2 brakes

This is a question for owners, past/present of (220hp) 944Ts and (pre-G50) Carrera 3.2s. I realise this question is subject to car condition but…

I own both cars I feel that the 944T has significantly better braking performance than my 3.2.

In top condition – which car has the better (stock) braking sytem?

The 951 brakes are much better.
A 930 MIGHT be able to stop with a 951, but it is so far behind on the track (according to Derrick Bell) that is doesn't matter.

I had both cars and I liked the braking on my 3.2 but it was a lighter car. I think the 951 has better calipers on the front. I haven't owned that 911 in 5 years so I can't remember what it had.

Do only the 951S have the 928S4 brakes? Or do late model Non S have them as well?

On a street car, with street pads, the power assisted 951 will probably feel like it has the better brakes.

The 944T brakes are the newer and more advanced design. But the 911 is lighter and has a tremendous weight distribution advantage for braking (with the rear engine, it uses significantly more rear brakes than a 944 platform).

So on the track, with all things being equal (pads, tires, suspension setup, alignment, and driver), a 944T/S2 (non-M030) cannot outbrake a 911 (SC, 3.2, or 964). 944s with the 928S4 calipers can run with 911s in the braking zones, but still dont have a significant advantage.

my 87 951 brakes better than my 85 911. Both braking systems are stock.

The S4 brakes began coming on 951's in 88 when they first made the Turbo S. The Turbo S was offered only in Silver Rose for the first half of the MY, then they offered the Turbo S in the normal color pallete for the rest of 88. If you have a non-S 951 from 88, then it has the standard 951 brakes, but of course if you have an S it has the S4 brakes. The S4 brakes were standard in the 89 MY.

(Some of that was common knowledge...I know...)

You can put 951 brakes on a 3.2 as an upgrade. The holes for the front calipers need to be machined a small amount and front brake lines need to be extended. I am having a brain block about the back. The 944 turbo calipers are superior in size 2 pot vs 4 pot, larger pads and less weight.

Thanks for sharing that article Tool. I remember reading that years ago, what a great write-up that was. Praise Derrick Bell and the 951 Turbo S brakes!! I think I'll trust his opinion too.

Hey, in the article it says that the 951S has an overboost function for quicker midrange grunt...I've never heard of this before...what is this?

Maybe he was talking about boost spike? I know all of my previous turbo cars would spike 2-3 PSI before setting down to the set boost level. IE Peak to 18 and settle to 15. Of course, that was with a MBC.
