I agree with the airbags, but im under 21, and until then the parents swear by airbags and that is a requirement because they are terrifed that I will kill myself. However I thought ABS was a good asset to have?

ABS is an asset from a safety standpoint.

Inspect the cables that run from the strut towers to the struts and the body to the rear control arms carefully. They are getting old, frayed and shorting out. I just replaced all four of mine for the cheapo price of ~$125-150 each! Mine had gotten so bad that when i went over a bump the ABS light came on.

Opinions and preferences are very individualistic and I see your parents viewpoint. When I was looking for mine, and I passed on several, one of my requirements was that it had to be an 86. Downside was wheel offset and smaller turbo - boh were getting replaced anyway. Upside was no aribags or ABS. Good luck in your search.

is no abs good for the track, because all I know is my 87 that got totalled had ABS and that thing would throw you out the windshield with stopping power rain or shine.

My 86 is for sale - details in sig. No airbags, but you might want to ask your parents if they really want to trust a 20+ year old air bag...

well the fact that it had an airbag was the only reason they let me get it in the first place. I used that as my selling point then so I cant turn around and bash it now, even though I know the truth.

Here is how they see it: When i told her that a full roll cage will be ten times safer than any airbag, she said "Well if its so safe, why do all of the new mercedes and volvos have airbags???" to which I replied, "Because who wants to have a full roll cage in a grocery getter drivien by a soccer mom everyday!!!!!"

actually a full roll cage can be very dangerous on the street, unless you are planning on wearing a 5/6 point harness and full face helmet everywhere you go; in an accident on the street with your normal seat belts, you're likely to crack your head open hitting one of the steel bars of the roll cage (especially the one around the door/a-pillar)

What is your time frame in finding one? I'm finishing up my '87 project car pretty soon and it'll be for sale afterwards. It'll have fresh silver paint, probably a vented header panel, fresh head gasket and seals, CV and venturi delete, Lindsey Boost Enhancer, and a really quality pair of Porsche-script cloth-center seats.

I'll be letting it go for $7500 once I'm finished with her.

Well I meant with a 5 point harness and helmet, we had this discussion when i mentioned tracking my old 951, I was going to pull the airbag and put in a cage and harness system, not full cage but a streetable one. Kevin, I am looking for one as soon as I can get back in one, but patience is good, how long are you thinking because there are a few immediate offers that I am dealing with currently
