So these are both gas and oil shocks? I don't think so but I'm here to be proved wrong. Sorry for the ignorance but the Leda's and the KW's are oil shocks with the high speed bypass valving which is great over bumps/kerbs etc...Just curious about the Motons.

since you cant compress liquid very well "oil" you need the gas in the shocks, or they wont compress

Sorry I don't quite get what you mean. I understand the need for some compliancy, hence the compression, but there are shocks which are oil based with valving that do the same thing. I'll check out a link that Rob posted me on the Motons so I can understand it better.

Edit: Read some of the link and I get what you're saying with the gas and the liquid. Thanks. They look a top product. I imagine they're pretty exe $$$?

Yes, gas and oil filled. You can quickly change the gas pressure for different tracks that are bumpier. Leda’s are overpriced of a single adjustable shocks IMO.

The oil, being a thick-ish fluid is the "damper" meaning, as the shock moves, the oil is forces through a series of valves -- this is what absorbs the spring's "bouncy" movement. However, for this oil to move from one part of the shock to the other, there has to be an area that's "empty". In reality, this area is filled with nitrogen gas (which is compressible) for stability and anti-corrosion issues.

By changing the size of the openings on the valves, you can control the damping. Bump is the compression of the shock; rebound is the return movement, etc.

Yes for some reason I always had in my mind that there were 'Gas' shocks like Bilsteins that only had gas in them. I knew that there was not only oil in the 'Oil' ones but didn't think of a combination. Thanks.

Your not seriously comparing a $30 strut to a set of motons?
