What is a decent, not overly expensive GOOD SOUNDING muffler for my Turbo S? I am thinking of putting a 40 Series flowmaster on as I like the way it sounded on my 944S however, I am told it might not sound the same/as good. I am open to suggestions. I have a 2.5" stock exhaust now.

I've been doing some research on this same topic, as I'm ready to buy a new cat back system myself. I know it's not the cheapest, but I'm buying the Borla XR-1 muffler from SFR. If you buy the muffler (part #90944) straight from Borla, I believe its somewhere around $160. Everyone who's used one has told me nothing but great things about it!

Have you searched this forum for "borla XR"?
Or you could measure the size you want, i.e. length, width, the inlet and outlet size you need and surf the borla web site to see what XR-1's are available. Hint:
http://www.borla.com/products/product_multi_detail.aspx?cat=5&type=72&desc=XR-1%26reg%3b+Racing+Exhaust|XR-1%26reg%3b+Sportsman+Racing+Mufflers

Pretty easy, eh?

Did you mean to say "40944"? But that is a for a 3" inlet. He needs a 2.5" so a 40942?

Jeeper, that is why you must search for youself.

it couldent hurt to get the 3in one anyway and use a reducer with it. That way if he goes to 3in later on he wont have to buy another muffler.

Yes, he should look everything up himself, but he posted here to get a general area to start, I'm sorry Jeeper for being one number off. It wouldn't matter how big his exhaust currently is. If he would like to get the 2.5'' inlet, then he is more than welcome to, but that certainly wouldn't stop him from being able to use that muffler. Once again Jeeper, I'm sorry if I missled you at all by being incorrect on the number.

Because of you I spent hours upon hours searching the wrong number. During the time I wasted, my daughter graduated from college, my hair went gray and then fell out and cars now run on electricity. Just kidding.

Not a problem. I ask and I search. Really don't see the big deal. I find that people could usually answer the question in less words then they use to scold the person for not searching. Sometimes asking just saves time.

Now back to our regularly secheduled program. My muffler.

If I got a 3" muffler with the intentions of going 3" i am assuming there would be no change in performance. How would a 3" pipe before the muffler change things?

I have a magnaflow on my car, with a 3in exhaust and it sounds amazing, deeper sound at idle and a nice throaty growl when I get on it; the model # is 12249, its a 3 inch in/out. I highly recommend this muffler, I like it better than the flowmasters and borlas that I've heard in the past (although this is a highly subjective thing). I noticed better spoolup as soon as I put on the exhaust, but that's more due to the 3in pipe and a new cat.

+1 for the MagnaFlow. That is what I have in my LR 3" system.

Don't scare me like that! haha, jk. As far as a 3" cat-back system? I've read that gradually increasing exhaust systems are better for turbo cars, so I think it'd have something to do along those lines. Don't quote me by any mean, I'm just learning this stuff. Which ever muffler you choose will be fine, I'm sure. Good luck with the hunt!
