Default Tires for 951

Well it's time to plunk down some money for new tires. I am going with all-season ultra high performance tires and don't want to spend much more then $400. I was looking at the Pirelli PZero Nero and the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position.

I only drive on the street, but I still want a seriously good handling tire. I don't take her out much if it's raining or snowing so if there is a great summer tire that you think would be better then feel free to suggest that.

I'm open to all suggestions!

The best grip is seen with Michellin PS2s or Pilot Sports. Pirellis are known for less grip, but I believe they are a better overall tire for longevity.

I think those are both over 400 though, I hear the Potenzas are really good.

Yes they are from what i've heard. No experience with them though. I do know the Pole Position SO3s people swear by. No idea on price though sorry.

Oh yeah I forgot...don't over look the Khumo (sp?) brand. The tires are VERY good and are inexpensive as well!

S03's are my choice, though they dont make them anymore. PS2's are amazing. Pirelli's are nice but sacrafice grip. For a CHEAP performance tire I dont mind ES100's, but they are extremely noisy. I'd actually recommened checking ebay. You can get some great tire deals on there.

They dont make them anymore, or, in the sizes he may need. I'm confused here, check the links below.

And yes I will agree that the PS2 are an awesome tire too.

I wouldnt be surprised, granted, I may have heard wrong. (I'll check on tire rack). I have 8 S03's left, probably last me less than 4k miles.

You do that pal, check for us and get back! I had them before and loved them for the money. But I have my eye on the PS2s now, but am not sure.

I sold tires for 4 years in a former life. The Pole Position tires are nice, but nothing beats the Michelin Pilot's. I've personally ran everything from the Goodyear F1 to Pirelli's. I defected out more F1's than I can remember, but only 1 set of Pilots - vette owner that didn't know how to drive. Anyway, these are well out of the price range given. I did not see your tire size, but Falken makes an inexpensive, yet reasonable performance tire. I think they are called Zeons.

Check tire tests at tirerack.com. For the MONEY, look at Avons Tech M500, and Fuzions Zri (made by Bridgestone). Do a tire search here and you will find may recommendations for your needs. For a street tire on a budget I am very satisfied with the Fuzions.

the sumotomos (sp?) from tire rack are dirt cheap, and actually pretty good. Quite soft and sticky. They can get a little slipery feeling after a full day of track driving as they overheat, but for $60 each, that's what you get. For the street, they're just fine.

I'm actually thinking about getting a set for rainy track days -- they certainly won't overheat then, and I'm not going to keep up with the guys on rain hoosiers anyway.
