Default 968 Rear Shelf Help

I have a 968 rear shelf I bought on ebay quite a while ago part number 941 555 161 110. I just got to remove my rear seats and try it out but it doesn’t fit right. I was under the impression that it would go totally flat like the rear seat when put down. The shelf I have is several inches lower and doesn’t fit tight on the sides. When checking PET I find the part numbers are different. There are two numbers 941 555 143 00 and 941 555 143 01. I have already done a search.
So my questions are
Were there different shelves made, cab & coupe?
What is the right part # to fit my S2?
Was the part Number changed?
What does the shelf I have really go to?

THANKS
Tom

The rear shelves were only made for cabs and were never sent from the factory in a coupe, to the best of my knowledge. What you are encountering sounds typical of the stories I have heard when someone has refit this into a coupe, altho most folks seem like they are okay with it by the time they get done.

Is the shelf you have the 968 cab rear shelf or one from a 968cs? If its from the cab and has the cubby holes in it, then from what I have seen they don't fit perfectly in a coupe but can be made to fit.

The 968 CS piece was really a light weight cover, not a shelf. Those seem to be practically "unobtanium", at least in the Unites States. It would be fun to track a few of those down, with at least one of them being in linen, for my car!

Regards,

I actually spent a few days trying to figure out the right part number etc. for the 968cs shelf and finally found out it was NLA. I would really love to see some pictures of one in a car to get a better idea then the diagram in PET. The picture in PET makes it look like its just and extension to the cargo floor and no front part to it, as if you could store things under it in the empty buckets. If someone had one I would love to try and replicate it for myself and others.

That's right,it is just a shelf with space under it, was looking at it last week, clubsports are as common as normal 968's out here.It is just like a piece of ply with carpet on it, easy to duplicate.

The 968 CS shelf looks like this one (although this is out of a 911 ClubSport it is basically the same, just dimensions to fit are slightly different).

The shelf I have is not like the 911 Clubsport, which looks like the 968 picture in PET. Mine has a cutout in the rear where it fits to the hump which makes it several inches lower than the rear storage area in the S2.

THANKS

The only thing I can't find the part number to is the carpet that would sit under the 968cs shelf, it is no where to be found in PET. If someone could get me some pictures or paper tracings of the shelf I would gladly try and make some replicas.

I don't know what you have but it doesn't sound like any of the CS shelves that I have seen. Are you certain it is a factory piece? Some 968CS cars came with a full interior and it could have been added later if the rear seat was deleted post-purchase.

Here is a better shot of the CS shelf from the rear, showing that it is at the same level as the rear carpet.

If you are interested in 968CS cars, this is a very good site to bookmark:

Love this shot and color combo:

I think I just figured out my problem when I saw a picture of the rear shelf in a cab. Mine came from a cab not a CS but the part numbers don't match.
