DAMN-SOMEONE DESIGN A HATCH SHOCK SOLUTION
So i opened my back hatch and the driver side hinge snapped!
Those shocks push the hell out of the hatch until the window seperats from the frame (usually the cause of exhaust smell), and now it just shoved the hatch right into my hand.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone could make a shock that pressurized when being lifted up, then slowly leaked pressure after being shut, so that it didn't have the constant stress on the hatch?
or some motor that when you pressed the hatch release button would pump up the shock or something?
i hate the original design.

Ballistic,
If you look at the top of your hatch where the window meets the frame and there isn't a seperation, you are lucky.
when i had my exhaust smell problem, my second mechanic immeditately told me what the problem was befpre he even saw the car and proceeded to take me to several 944's in his shop, they all had the same problem.
but like every other pervasive problem, not everone has it. like a RMS on some models or bad electric or whatever any particular model has.
after i fix the glass, i might rig a prop system, or drill a hole in the shock and stick something in it to keep it up.........i dunno.

Advance Auto has a neat little spring loaded arm that clamps to the shock and latches when it is opened fully. Costs approx $7.95. I put them on both my Jeeps, but didn't on the 951. I got other plans. I got a great working hand rail picket I will sell for $20 shipped that I don't need anymore!

I keep a collection of rear hatch shocks of varying capacity and I only ever put on one new shock at a time, teamed with a moderate strength shock on the other side, savvy? I think they designed these things to lift a hatch with a wiper motor and 20lbs of snow on it. That the hatch/glass seam has held together 20 years is quite amazing really.
