Default Is this damaged or manufacturer standard

I beleive it's called the bearing seal. All other parts inside the CV joint have no wear on them (including the bearings). I'm not sure what to make of these marks. I'm leaning towards replacing it.

That's the center that the stub would fit into. The damaged ares is where the bearings sit. Toast or soon to be toast.

Typical wear for a aged CV. It will continue to gall until it clacks. Some people swap axles from side to side for a few more miles of use. The CV's are easy to change but they are messy. Better to buy the full axle assembled IMO unless you only find one CV that's damaged

Agreed. I'm guessing a torn CVboot and age caused this problem. Friction is never good.

There are a few solutions to this.
1. Replace the part itself (hopefully Lart can help me out here)
2. Replace the Axle ($300~)
3. Replace the entire CVjoint (porsche quoted me @ $108.00)

Mine looked the same. Take them all apart, I bet they all look like that. I only had one good one out of the 4.

Or you could always go with one of these for already assembled with lifetime warranty
and save yourself $468 for 2 of them...tough call huh? tear them up, turn them in for new ones. Even if you don't use the actual axle in the set the CV's are interchangeable between the NA and Turbo and very easy to swap to your turbo axle, at least for 83 to 86.

'Rooted' being an Australian technical term for ' ceasing to be of any further use'

You'll also give him a lifetime warranty right Lart? For those of us hard on drivelines a LT warranty is hard to beat.
