Default *PICS* My ghetto race dash & other stuff

I took advantage of the highly-abnormal 50 degree January weather, and pulled the car outside to let it run a bit.

My latest project was to lighten the dash, keeping only what was necessary. I wish I had a non-airbag dash, so it could have extended all the way to the passenger side, I think it woulda looked better, but it is what it is. I was going to make an aluminum dash, similar to OZ951's awesome looking dash, but I needed to retain the stock gauge cluster since I have no idea how to make an aftermarket speedometer and tach work. Anyway, it's a bit ghetto, but completely functional.

The switches in the center are 1. for the fan blower that I installed to provide cool outside air to the cockpit when needed, 2. is for the radiator cooling fans, high speed, and 3. is just a spare for future use. Also installed the Auto Meter boost/vac gauge.

I also repainted the front floor areas with black spray-on truck bed liner. The white paint looked like crap after just one season. Plus, I rebuilt the turbo, did the AC delete with alternator relocation, new plugs, sent the injectors out for cleaning, new coolant expansion tank, painted the intake manifold, misc. brackets, and heat shields, and cleaned the engine bay. And it's only January!

I want to come over and see what you did for a blower. I'm going to get around to fully gutting the dash at some point, maybe not this season but at some point.

Anytime, just give me a shout.

I took a marine bilge blower (170 cu/ft per minute!), hard wired it in with an in-line fuse. Covered the factory blower hole with lexan I had laying around, covered with some funky diamond-plate self-adhesive vinyl I had laying around. Used 2 X 3" air intake adapters from Auto Zone to attach 3" brake duct hose to the lexan cover. Stuck some screen on the intake end to keep debris out. I used weatherstripping on the bottom edge of the lexan, and between the intake adapters/lexan to make it weather tight. It blows probably 4 or 5 times the amount of air the stock heater/AC blower did (while only drawing 4 amps), and directs air at my chest and up under the front of my helmet.

Well, it ain't as tidy as yours, that's for sure! My initial thoughts were to do something similar to your dash. However, reality slapped me upside the head, so I worked with what I had. But thanks for the compliment!

I assure you no sacred tears were shed in the making of this dash.

In fact, there was a nice big canyon crack right there where I hacked it off.
