Default Deja vu, Tech's input needed

Well, 3 years later after my catastrophic engine disaster, I was changing my oil today and there it was the nightmare of every 951 owner a piece of metal was stuck to the magnet in the oil plug. Check it out it is not hard but kind of soft, I can bend it with my fingers, can someone tell me the possible scenarios where this piece of metal might have come from? Ring? Rod bearing, main bearing? Also I changed my plugs do they look like if they are burning oil to you guys?

I thought the same thing but how it could have traveled all the way to the oil pan?

When the thrust bearing gets to be completely gone the crank counterbalancing weights can rub the main bearing girdle and make a chip like that. Check the thrust of the crankshaft to be sure. I think the cap is made of cast iron which would be magnetic, and I cant think of many other things that size that would be. Definately not a spark plug seal if it is magnetic.

Makes a lot of sense, when my tranny would get stuck on 2nd gear I drove the car , just by pressing and depressing the clutch, the gear shifter was totally stuck on 2nd, so that could be the reason why the chip was there.

My mechanic suggested that it could be a valve stem seal, since it has rubber in the center. What do you guys think?

A friend of mine has something like that show up in his oil pan as well and it did turn out to be from a valve stem seal. A broken valve spring had torn it up.

Valve stem seal sounds like a good call.

lart951, can you take a close-up of your spark plugs electrode (just one will do)?

Thanks

"Valve stem seal sounds like a good call."
+2

Would you be able to hear a broken spring using the old stethascope trick?

I didnt think of the valve stem seal, but that is more likely than what I suggested for sure. The rod bearings would be toast by that point as well, and you would notice other problems.

What is your max rpm? Maybe time to upgrade the valvtrain.

Mark, just in the last 3 days I have developed the following symptoms; excesive smoking in the mornings when the car is cold, hesitation about 5800rpm under boost the a/f ratio goes crazy and the car loses power. I had to bring the car down to 18psi of boost so I wont have the hesitation problem, at this moment I don't know if the symptoms are related.

IIRC a high RPM miss was also present with my friend's broken valve spring
