Guns: I know today is a very sad day for you, something I can't ever imagine. But all I can say, again my friend, is that my heart goes out to you, his family and all the brothers out there. May your friend go in peace.
Amen.
Amen.

The ramp ceremony was at 1430 local this afternoon, he died a warrior and will be buried as such. He was one of the greatest. Thank you all for your kind words, they have helped me and I know so many hearts go out to his family and friends, they must feel that. Its a powerful emotion.
There are already spin reports going out to down play the situation, they even say now it happened elsewhere. I just wish the truth would always come out, it must suck to be a civilian.

So he is eligble to be buried at Arlington. You know if he will be by his family?

Not too sure how the burial works. I tend not to think about what happens after we send them home in a bag, you can't think about it or you'll go crazy. I do know that if that's where he goes, (the family might choose another location) he will be among many of the boys he used to tell us about that were KIA.

Anyway...
Guns, take solace in the fact that he died doing what he was born to do, and that those of us who go and have gone in harms way, would have it no other way. We serve so that others need not do so, and we do so proudly. We ask only that while we serve, the civilians at home commit equally to making this World a place where we and our skills are rendered obsolete and unnecessary. Semper Fi! to your friend.
Now keep your ****ing head down and get back to work. People are counting on you.

I don't care about popular or unpopular. Your friend was a hero, and will be in my thoughts. Godspeed to him.
My full support is behind those of you there, doing what so many here are unable or unwilling to do.
It was my cousin, Lt. Col. Allard that said, just before his deployment(April 2003) that it was a job that HAD to be done. I'm proud to be his kin, and proud to be an American. Being in command of the MP's and being part of the Baghaded invasion there was a pretty good chance that I'd never see him again. Our family is greatful that he came home. I cannot grasp what it must be like for those families where that was not the case.
I am truely sorry for the loss.
