Default Hole in my block... see pic.

Pull the head of my 2.8 stroker yesterday and saw a hole adjacent to #1 cylinder. It looks like the previous owner or engine builder made the hole on purpose for cooling reasons. Does anyone know anthing about this modification? Your opions and comments are welcome. The car was running good don't have any problem with cooling. Thanks.

That hole is what all blocks should have, it is for the waterpump.

Thanks for the pic Hosrom. The edge of the hole looked "chewy" or didn't look factory to me. Maybe it was merely enlarged by previous owner/builder. Now I feel better. I paid for memebership how long does it take to show as a member? thanks again.

What am I missing here? These look like 2 very different places on the block. In the interest of having to scroll up and down, I attached edited versions of them.

The front swedge in your bottom pic comes up steeply to form the backside view that is visible in your first.

Same place - just viewed from a different angle.
That’s just the way they came from the factory.

Different camera angle, Rlin still has the water pump installed and Hosrom 951 does not.
