Default Perfect red "944 Turbo" aka 951 sighting in Waldorf Maryland

Today as I was getting stuff out of my truck at Home Depot in Waldorf, MD; I saw a perfect red car in the lot. The owner and his wife were just getting in when I approached the vehicle. So I introduced myself and he told me how he just bought it a year ago, from the original owner.

This car was easily the best looking 951 I have ever seen! It only had 30K miles and flawless paint, tan interior, everything. Not even a single chip! He said that he's planning on keeping the car 100% original, not even a chip! I can agree to that somewhat, but I think the Vitesse chip is a easily forgivable mod and well worth it. So he hadn't heard of Rennlist, or even Clark's Garage, and I gave him the info. Hopefully he'll check Rennlist out and see what owning a 951 is all about! If you make it on here, it was nice meeting you

Hopefully he does find us here. Ownership of 951's can be about preservation. I enjoy mods just as much as the next guy (my '87 is loaded with them), but we do need a few examples preserved in factory condition. Looks like this car found the right set of owners. Good on 'em!

I sure as heck know where Waldorf is.

Hey Josh, where in MD are you? I spend a lot of time in Chevy Chase/Bethesda and some time in Baltimore for work. Have you ever been to the Dorkiphus forums? Local (NoVA) P-car guys there, a good group of friendly and helpful guys.

This is all very well and good, but why do so many people on this forum refer to the 944 Turbo as the 951? That's not exactly a number that everyone knows.

It's clear that everyone knows terms like 911, or 930, or 944, or 928, but 951, or 986, or 987? Gees. Call it what it is.

This coming from the guy with 997S in his signature? Isn't that a 911? I'm confused, I don't know what 997 means.

What is a 930 other than a 911 turbo??? Your reasoning doesn't wash.

Other than that, you may wish to take it up with John D. See those little blue-gray numbers ^^^ up there? 924/944/951/968 Model Specific Technical Forums...

Well my dear friend, that's because around here that's all we call it. Not many people I know call it a 944 Turbo. As a matter of fact, everyone I know calls it a 951. Sorry we aren't the norm and follow our fellow Porsche lovers. Does that really bother you? Regardless, welcome to our forum of 951s!

Boo hoo...

So if I take a 931, and change the body a bit, it sort of becomes a 951?
