Default Street Suspension Upgrades: Step 1

I am going to be replacing my factory struts with Koni's this spring. What would you recommend as the next step for street performance.

I may take this car to a few autoX events but is primarly a weeekend warrior.

thanks

Talk to Jason at Paragon Products. They are a great source for upgrades. Also, set a budget. Its easy to buy things you don't need.

Based on the deep dish looking phones in your avatar i would assume you have an '86 which came with 24mm and 18mm sway bars stock. A nice upgrade would be to the 968 M030 bars, 30mm and 19mm adjustable. If you want something that subjectivley might have less understeer, a 26.8mm bar may suit you better upfront.

And like Dave said, defenetley set a budget as this will put you into a certain 'category' of how you should setup the car overall, not just piece by piece.

M030 968 Porsche factory sway bars is the best street "bang for the buck" that you can do, in my opinion.

For autoX, and a really tight budget, I would recommend 1) inexpensive high performance tires, eg. Fuzion ZRi, 2) upgrading only the rear sway bar to 19mm adjustable to tune out some of the understeer (if you upgrade the front sway bar to a bigger diameter, that will bring back the understeer), and 3) a good "performance" alignment (may want to specify AutoX, you know, toe-out and neg camber up front, and zero-toe or toe-out and positive camber in rear). Also, learn how adjusting tire pressures and ajusting ride height will affect your vehicle's "dynamic balance."
