Default 3.0 crank in a 2.5 block

Is this possable without further modifications? And what would the end displacement be?

2.8 liter displacement and some grinding on the block depending on which rods you go with. The 2.8 upgrade requires at a minimum new pistons if you can find custom made pistons to work with the 3.0 rods or better yet new rods and pistons.

I thought 3.0 rods are the same as 951 rods....?

3L crank (88mm) + 100mm bore = 2.8l (actually a bit less). It's called a 2.8L stroker.

To get there you need:
- 2.8L pistons to use with stock length rods. ANDIAL sold them, not sure if anyone else does.. or if they do if it's any good.
- Stock rods require some work to clear the case. Aftermarket rods will clear fine.
- Using the stock 951 pistons with a shorter rod is not a good idea. The geometry of crank/rod becomes undesirable.

Of course the tuning... It might be less expensive to do a 104mm 2.7L (Chris White) or buy my 2.8L 106mm bore.

If you have a 3L crank and you need to sleeve the block, then 3L is about the same cost... If you do go to 2.8L or 3L, we need to upgrade your software to handle the longer stroke.

I'm planning a rebuild to make a 2.8L stroker. I already have aftermarket rods and my head is in great shape. The guys at Lindsey Racing tell me all I need is a 3 liter crank and different pistons.

What's a lightened knife edged cross drilled 2.5 crank worth?
Want to trade cranks?
How about some 15K mile coated stock pistons?

I just parted out a S2 short block, and the oil pan is sitting in my garage. I noticed that the scrapers for the crank are different than those in my 951 pan. They look to provide more clearance for the rods. Is this something that you guys account for, when building a 2.8, or is it not necessary?

Basically you are in the same situation as I am with my spare engine with the exception being that I have a Huntley Stage 3 eight valve head. I'm going to eventually send my 2.5 block to Chris for his sleeves and take it up to 3.0 litres using custom rods and his pistons.

If it were me....I would sell the 2.7 head (they are worth around $1500 these days) and put that towards sleeving a 2.5 (make it a 104mm bore) drop in the 3.0 crank and there you go - a 3.0 turbo engine.
The 3.0 turbo engine requires some custom piston configuration to get the right compression ratio and wrist pin clearance – but thats included in the MID sleeving kit.
So if you sell the 2.7 head you can have the parts to build the 3.0 for a net cost of $1750 (plus shipping !)
Maybe its me…but that seems like a no brainer!!!
