Default Need Cash - My 944 Turbo is for Sale

My 944 Turbo is for sale. I haven't had time to race her in a couple years (due to my Grand-Am schedule and my subsequent divorce). My loss, my very large loss, is your gain.

Here's she is:

'87 944 Turbo - all work done by Autometrics Motorsports
Custom Roll Cage
2.6L engine making approx 375 rwhp at 16psi (thats with the boost controller turned all the way down, the engine was built to withstand 20 to 22 psi)
J&E Pistons / Pauter Rods
Milledge spec'ed Cam and Turbo
O-Ringed Head with Valve Job
3" Stainless Exhaust
Turbo S Transmission with S2 Ring & Pinion
Fiberglass Hood
Lexan Windshield and Rear Hatch
Lindsey Racing Rear Wing and Uprights
Twin Turbo Front Calipers with Water Cooling
Bilstein Coil-Over Suspension
Charley Front Control Arms
30mm Front Sway Bar / Weltmeister Rear Sway Bar
Approximately 2650 lbs as she sits now and there is a good bit of weight left to come out.

Note - The Fikse's pictured are not included.

A few more pictures in an AOL photo album.

Drawbacks - She's a bit of a project at this point. The engine needs to be freshened. She'll run, but smokes a good bit. Top that off, she hasn't really been driven hard in a little over a year. So budget for a rebuild on the engine, figure $5000. Meaning, don't expect to pick up this car and take her to the track, she needs a little love and care.

Back when she was running, she was as fast as any GT3s car out there with a good bit of room left for development. For someone considering building a GT class 944 Turbo, this is a GREAT starting point that will save you a TON of money and still allow you to build the car as you want it, not as someone else wanted it.

What do I want for her?

$15k She goes on eBay next week if I don't have any takers here. She's a great project guys. You couldn't come close to duplicating this car for twice this amount of money. I'll even toss in a GT Racing Fiberglass front bumper that I have that hasn't been installed (its new, still in the box).

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

That car makes my sticker peck out.

Seriously - good luck with the sale! I would buy it in a heartbeat but that would require selling a kidney - and as much German beer as I like to drink........well, you get the picture.

Fikse's were sold with my 996 back in February '06. They are not available as noted in the message.

goodluck with the sale bailey and thanks as always for all you're helpful advice on runing the 44's in the GT series. I have no doubt the car is as exactly as you describe.

<character witness.

someone is getting one hellva a deal. Building a competitive GT class 944 is extremely expensive.

This is an awesome car, I will pass it along to my racer friends in Canada. Good luck with everything!

The water cooling is tied into the brake pedal and is very similar to what Trans Am cars used to run.

Misters pull water from the windshield washer reservoir and mist it into the cooling ducts for the front brakes (effectively cooling the air). This in turn keeps the rotors cooler than they otherwise would be.

I've run this car at CMP in South Carolina in 105+ degree temps and didn't have a hint of fade, even when she was at 3000+ lbs and running in the stock classes.

Wow, that cooling system sounds like a neat idea - going to have to apply that to my track car.......

Southlake is just north of DFW airport which is between Dallas and Fort Worth. Very easy to get to.
