i havnt read the entire thread.. but i have a bunch of stuff on the east coast that you would need to put it back together.. i parted out an 87 944 N/a.. so i dont no exactly how much stuff can be used other then the interior stuff.. i have two complete doors with panals.. a dash that isnt in to bad of condition.. a few cracks.. alot of plastic trim peices.. a windshield with antenna.. the complete wiring harness and fude box out of the car.. not one wire clipped off it (dont think that will work on a turbo though), and lots of other stuff.. since you are fairly close on the east coast.. id thought i would let you or whoever may be getting this car next know incase they want to attempt to throw it back together

let me know if you are interested at all,
-keith

How bad is it cracked, I would rather have a dash with the bags?

Don't need the bags, just a bag dash.

I've never seen a dash fire either.

Do you have anyway of knowing for sure that it couldn't have been fuel related?
The OEM fuel rails are brazed and known to crack and spew fuel all over....and you said you had just put a new FPR on....how long ago was that? Pretty coincidental.

For insurance purposes..."spontaneous electrical fire" for sure

I go over this in my mind almost everday.
I opened the fuse box to remove the fuse for the fuel pump to
depressurize the fuel line. Notice a fuse was blown (shattered).
It was for the rear defroster and I replqaced it with same size (amps).
Start car, when it dies, I swap the FPR. Started and checked for leaks.
No problems. I decide to go for a ride and know that there have been fires from the fuel rail so I throw a fire exstinguisher in the car. After driving for
about 30 min. I notice smoke comming from under the dash. Read the beginning of my post. There was no fire in the engine compartment,
no way did it come from the FPR / fuel rail. I noticed the fuse for the
security system was melted but not blown. This car had an after market
alarm, stereo, keyless entry and a CD changer and amp in the hatch area that was removed before I got it. In other words alot of non factory wiring add ons.
