Nope, rock solid except for loosening or tightening the crank bolt.

Any chance the starter froze with the gear engaged?

I wouldn't think that you would see any metal when draining the oil if the car hasn't really fired off yet. I might have missed it but what had you done to the engine prior to this problem? Have you done a rebuild? Sorry to hear this; I hope you find it's not the worst case scenario.

Im sure ski is on to something there not much else makes sense. If the valve train looks good an you didnt hyd the motor(I would think you would need to bend a rod more than I have ever seen before because if you broke a rod it would still spin)it must be in the bellhousing.

Goodluck

There are a lot of possibilities – but to really lock up a motor solid so that there is not movement at all in either direction takes a bearing failure. Otherwise you could rock it back and forth just a tad.

...

I dont know how that would have happened. Crank was a good used one (mine was totally fubar), main bearings and rod bearings were all new. Loads of assembly lube was used, and oil pressure pegged the gauge.

So, question... Will a cylinder head thats been oringed for a stock 2.5 liter block work on one of your 2.7 MIDs?

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm guessing something has caused a severely scored cylinder.

Good luck and let us know when you figure it out.
