People who are running weltmeister chips, are you still using the stock fuel pressure regulator or must you upgrage to a 3 bar when using these chips?

Welts have the overboost protection left in them, so you can't dial your boost up high enough to go lean with a stock 2.5 bar FPR. Having said that, I would suggest a 3.0 bar running any chips if you use a manual boost controller to increase boost.

Russell

At least for the 951S the Welt chips came with the 3.0 bar FPR and a WG shim.

When I bought my car it had Welt chips, stock FPR and a lindsey boost enhancer. The boost level was about stock and I had no problems, now I have a MBC, 3.0 FPR and run 15 Psi all day long.

The Welt chips were tuned by Dinan for use with a 3bar FPR, not the stock 2.5bar FPR. Put in the 3bar or you will run lean at higher rpms under boost. The Welt chips run real rich in the mid range, you should see some black soot when you punch it.

If they were tuned by Dinan why would he make them run very rich in the mid range?

Just the way they tuned the fuel maps to run with the 3bar FPR back then, it also gives some safety margin. They are the best of the early 951 chipsets (Dinan/Welt, APE, Europroducts) that came to market. Install the 3bar FPR, shim the WG and enjoy.

Wierd, when I spoke to Dave Lindsey several weeks ago he said not to run a 3bar FPR. He said that he was very familair with the chips and had used them on his own car.

He recommended that I install a 1/8" shim only and said that was all that was included with the chip sets.

Is there more than one version/generation of the Welt chips out there for the 951? For a given model/year that is, I would understand that the chips would vary for the different models of the 951.
