Restoring 951's

I have noticed over the years with an update or upgrade here and there, I have all the original parts gathering all over the place. Growing up around Corvettes, my dad always stressed the importance on keeping anything that came off the car so when time you could revert it to OEM with all matching hardware.
Currently, I have no plans to sell and who knows, I may want to move on to another car some day. Does anyone foresee a strong market for our cars with the orignal chips, wastegate, air box, heat shields, AFM, steering wheel etc...?
I am trying to get some new goodies for my 951 and I could recoup some green by selling somethings. Again, I don't plan on selling (so that could answer my own question) and I don't expect there to be a market like there is for the 50's and 60's Corvettes either.

In my opinion, the only real strong case for all original parts on our cars will be if car is pristine and super low miles.
BUT, I am sure many said the same about Shelby's and the likes back in the day

As far as I'm conserned there are loads of stock cars out there and most of them are not the best examples to say the least.
If I was in the market to purchase another 951 then I would rather look for a car that had been modified as this to me shows that the previous owner had an interest in the car rather than just using it for a daily hack which normally results in neglect.
In the UK most people tend to keep there cars as original as possible (show and shine) but as your not from the UK i would say sell the old stuff and use the funds for improving the performance, looks and handling of your car ... you will never look back ;-)

Quick hijack...
Future how are the headlights etc going?
Ok back to the subject.
Stock goes with low miles etc and museum pieces![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
And to be honest is it what you want...not the market etc.
I too have tons of original parts for that "go back to stock", but left over parts are really just ebay items in disguise

Hi mate...
I've got loads on the go at the moment (951 projects that is) *smiles*... Just got back from Russia after spending 6 months there on contract so got lots of catching up to do
The headlights are finished (along time ago) as well as other things which are the development process.
I promise to contribute and share to all later this week - Your Photoshop skills will be needed mate

These cars will never see resale values at super high or even ungodly levels. This is a sexy, sleek and extremely fast car with boatloads of potential however it will continue to go unloved from the purists and most who have a large amount of disposable income (they always go with a 911 either new or RSR clone and such).
Suggestion: Sell the little bits to make up for the expenses of modding, they will be hard to let go at first (like hesitating before you seemingly "destroy" a 951 with an angle grinder and cut off wheel), but will be easier if you just let them go and clean out your garage. Plus on the up side you could always make some stockers day when you post up some uber tiny original part they've been looking for everywhere in vain.

Well you all confirmed basically what I was thinking. I just be came a Rennlist member so I will be posting some misc 1986 951 hardware soon in the classifieds section.
IF the super rare and limited production 1986 951 becomes a collector's items, I am will expect a full appologie from each an every one of you

I keep all the stock hardware on my cars. If I ever sell them, I'm selling them as "stock" and then selling off the modification bits independently. I think you'll definitely get more for your money that way - even if 951s never see "high" values.
A modification part loses about 90% of its value the minute it gets bolted onto a car. Sold "off-the-car" you'll fetch a lot more for it.

Keep the stock parts. I for one feel that these cars if cared for will be valuable one day. Hell, look at the 914 (talk about unloved and unapreciated). Look at the strong value that they all of a sudden have got. I for one will continue to modify my car and keep the stock bits.

The body of my 951 is pretty straight, with some light rust behind the front quarters and the battery tray needs to be replaced (more rust) and a couple of light dings here and there. There are a few hairline (very small) dash cracks and 135k on the odo. It is by no means a low mileage showroom example and I plan on enjoying the hell out of the car.
I really have no need to sell the parts other than to clear up some room and defer some cost on go fast goodies... delima delima delima....

I think there is a demand for the stock parts, and that 944's will continue to gain value for the nice examples out there.
I tend to keep my stock parts in case I want to change something. Sometimes if I have doubles of something and I see someone looking for a particular thing I have I help them out and sell it.
