Default Dumb Idea or Brilliant Project?

I am contemplating a new project – and I need a sanity check…(is this the right place for a sanity check?)

I am considering buying a 968 cab that is missing the engine and trans and dropping in a built 951 or possibly another 16v turbo motor. I can go with either a 5 sp or 6 sp (seem to have both sitting around the shop).

What do you guys think? I love the wife’s S2 cab for driving around the streets and I have a track car (OK, 2 but only one is track ready) and another turbo coupe. I might sell the turbo coupe as I would spend a lot more time in the cab when it is done.

So – what do you guys think? Does a 400+ rwhp driver 968 cab seem like a good idea ?

I can't rush that one, there is so much going on with modifications to the body/frame/suspension that it will take its own sweet time. I would rather get it done with all the mods right than rush it. I only work on it when I am in the ‘mood’!

Bleh. It'd only be a 2.5L.

I hate these cars in cab form - ugly and less rigid.

Now, doing a 951 engine/968 coupe swap would be simply badass.

Actually the cabs are pretty strong in this regard - I've seen some material indicating they're actually even stronger than the coupes due to the double floorpans and increased rigidity added to support the roof and its mechanisms.

The one that's utter falacy is the belief that "sunroof delete" cars are stronger - they're not. It has been proven that the reinforcing/framing around the sunroof opening forms a better diaphragm than the roof skin by itself on a "sunroof delete" car.

Good point - I still think they are horribly ugly - but to each his own.

You can stiffen a cab chasis you just have to be careful not to add a ton of weight.

Chris, is this the car on ebay that's missing the engine? I think a 2.5 with around 350 in that thing would be nice...no flames here, or drop an LS7 in it with 6 spd. I wasn't a fan of hybrids, still prefer the OEM but after Magown's friend did one, it opened my eyes a bit.

A turbo 968 cab is on my short list of projects, but I plan on keeping the engine mild. Keep us posted how it goes.

Do it, of all the people that can do a motor swap you seem to have the credentials.

I think the 968 in turbo form is such a great idea and a cabriolet at that!!!
