headlamp problem
I turned my headlights on and they came up less than a quarter of the way up, then when i turned them off they came completely up before going down. Then if I leave it trying to come up it will blow the fuse. Now this morning they did nothing and i tried changing the switch and they were back to doing the same thing, and after trying it again 5 mins later it stopped working at all again. I hope it didnt just fry both switches i have! I dont think its the motor since it does go up, just after the lights are turned off. I tried changing the relay on the motor already, and disconnecting alarm wires that were spliced in by the switch. Whats left to try? All the grounds are good by the drivers headlight too.

Have you checked the fuses... There is one for up and one for down which are listed on the white sticker under the black fuse box lid in the engine bay!?!
I had the same problem with mine... I even purchased a new lift motor first before finding the problem.

I also tried plugging another motor in and watching it, so its not the motor. All the fuses checked out ok also. Im thinking it somehow has something to do with the alarm in the car. Im gonna have to look at every connection till i find something.

Have you tried the relay? also whilst your checking everything you may as well try cleaning all of the connectors etc.
Have you tried removing the nut that connects the motor to the lift bar and then turned the lights on and off? put a mark on the motor thread with Tipex and see if it moves through 180 degrees up and then 180 down when not connected to the lights lift bar. if this works thenthe clutch in the motor is burnt out.

Well, i got it back to working screwed up, atleast its doing something now instead of sitting dead. I realized part of the problem when i went to start it for the first time today. The negative cable to the motor got wedged between the engine and bell housing, so that explains why power would come and go in the car. Then I replaced the cable and started it, it sounded about as good as it can for having a dozen vac leaks. The motor didnt make any out of the ordinary noises or anything, so im gonna start fixing everything slowly

Has it always done this or is it new?
If it has always don this I'd say a PO tried to rice it and give your car "sleepy eyes" a la nissan 240sx style. If that's the case you may "just " need to re-index the lever-arms assembly.
if it's new, could be the assembly got screwed up some how or one of another sugesstion above.

I dunno if its new since i just bought the car from a guy who let it sit for 3+ yrs. They do go all the way up before returning to closed whick leads me to believe the adjustment is right and somethings just stopping it in the wrong place.

The "stop now, it's all the way up" point is determined by an index working against (and opening) a normally-closed switch. The "stop now, it's all the way down" point is determined by a second lever/cam index working against (and opening) a second normally-closed switch.
If one or the other is out of position, it will come to a stop in the wrong place either in the on or off conditions.

Yeah the linkage needs to be reindexed... someone sleepy eyed it.
Same as windshield wipers, the motor that raises/lowers the headlights travels in a circular motion acting on a pivot arm it dosent reverse polarity on the motor for a "up" or "down". I'll bet this is your problem.
