A slate gray 86 turbo with 138k mi. The interior is dry and cracked, the body is straight but the clearcoat is peeling in places. The car has a new clutch and hydraulics. It was running before the guy took the timing belt apart to replace and never finished. He wants 2k for it and i have a perfect black interior and any other part it may need. What do you guys think?

If its a decent straight car and everything is there 2k seems pretty fair to me, especially since its a turbo. However if you don't know anything about working on one it may turn into a pain trying to get it back together.

Replacing the timing belt is not a very big job. Without the car running, you have no way of knowing what other issues may be lurking in a poorly maintained car. I was told long ago that the most expensive Porsches are the poorly maintained ones that you can buy "Cheap" I've definatly found that to be true. The money you save on a "cheap" Porsche would likely be much more than offset with the money that would be required to bring the car back to a reliably driveable state. BE CAREFUL.

2k is cheap. if you buy it and decide it's gonna take too much work and $$, you can easily sell it for way more.

Hi, just an opinion: If he took the t-belt off an dnever finished, its perhaps REALLY the case that the t-belt actually broke and when he replaced it and cranked the motor, learned its damaged internally and decided to sell.

Just be careful, $2k on a spent car is $2k you're out on the next 944 you should have bought.

Not being a pain, just sounds fishy.

I may just go down there with my battery and try starting it. The belt is on but the boost tubes, afm, and radiator are off. I may just stick a few things on and try it. Although i have another motor but im just too lazy to swap them.

I also want to check the common areas for rot. I remember seeing about 2 inches of dirt around the battery from sitting so im a little worried about rot. I need to get over there and inspect it a little better.

NO. That is a VERY bad idea. Please go about properly inspecting the car, timing it, and putting it together rather than potentially destroying a perfectly fine motor that is (potentially) poorly timed.
