Default evo 9 v 951?

hi all,

currently have a very slightly tweaked 89 951. i am toying with the idea of changing to an evo 9...figure it will be easier to drive, in all likelihood quicker on the street, and definitely less of a handful in the wet. i also figure i will spend less on maintenance, and on modding (which will be only very slight).

interested in anybody's thoughts . i know it can't hold a candle to any p-car as far as quality goes...it's a cheap econobox with a lot of money thrown at the engine and drivetrain. that kinda appeals to me in a perverse sort of way :P.

cheers,

chris.

But...but...they're so ugly! Having never driven one and not knowing anyone with one, that's about all I can contribute.

What about $$? Can you afford it? Will you be happy with the amount you get for the 951? If you can swing it, and the 951 is your daily, then go for it, why the hell not =)

They are lovely cars!

What more could you ask for? 4 doors, 4WD, reliable...and down right FAST! They have tons of room, very comfortable, and did I mention fast? haha

You might consider a Subaru STi if your in the market for AWD cars. The Evo 9 and STi are going to be about the same in everything, just looks and price is what's different. They are really both great cars. Friend of mine has his WRX modded to stock STi specs and it HAULS. I've ridden in a bone stock 951, and it was fast, but this WRX with 240whp is downright mean.

If you get lucky, look into a Evo 8 MR. There is one here in town. White with the gun metal BBS wheels, red Brembo brakes, and CF wing. It's gorgeous...

951s don't compare to these cars in terms of room or reliability, then again, they do compare when it comes to price.

The tests I have seen say it is not the best choice for a daily driver. Very loud, rattly and not comfortable. better choice is Mits Sti

cheaply built, transmissions are junk, mitsubishi of north america has taken to voiding warranties list goes on and on-but they are fun modded ones run, nice brakes i've worked on 'em and modded 'em for customers i would rather have an sti-they are already built on a proven awd platform plus the sound of a modded sti on a 3 inch exhaust is wicked-you could also go all out and buy an audi s4 that's a ride.

They are pretty ugly IMO. Other than that, they are VERY fast cars and a hell of alot faster with bolt-ons then any bolt-on 951. People have made close to 400whp on evo 8's with stock turbos. It really boils down to a matter of what you enjoy. Personally I enjoy the 951 for what it is. If performance is all you care about, Evo's are "real world" fast in a way that most 951's aren't.

WRX > evo

I've heard evo transmissions are not very strong. A friend of mine has a heavily modified WRX that withstood gross abuse.

the wrx tranny isn't very good either due to its casing. The STi casing/tranny is great.

The evo is a good car as well. It really comes down to priorities of the car you own, and your pocket book. Go drive one, and see.

The reliabilty of the Jap engines is unsurpassed, I own 2 Toyotas , 1 nissan and 3 German cars. Go for the Jap as a daily driver, swicht back to the Porsche on the weekends for pure fun the german way.

I like the evo but having only a 45 (11 gallons?) liter fuel tank must suck.

evo9's factory are better than a 951 in almost all ways. Even tuned 951's can't stay with a tweaked evo. Evos can be driven in the snow, they go around corners the same if not better and face it... they won't break on you every couple months.
