Default No Start ???

Hi, I've been enjoying my car for the last 3 weeks 86 turbo. Parked it last night and this morning it cranks but doesn't start. Checked fuses, DME relay (had a spare) Car smells like gas so I'm assuming the pump is working, is there anything else I should look for? Thanks alot!

Does the tach needle bounce when you crank the engine? If not it is most likely a reference senor problem. The sensors are on top of the bellhousing in the rear of the engine. The connectors are on the bracket at the rear of the engine. Mine were loose causing a no spark situation. Tightening them up, started up fine.

If that doesn't work, check to make sure you have spark, then check fuel pressure. Good luck.

Pull the coil plug and check for spark during cranking...

If you do have spark, have someone sit with their ear by the rear passenger side wheel (fuel pump location) and listen for it to operate while you crank. Or take the nut off the front of the fuel rail and check the fuel pressure.

the plug you got to in the rear by lifting the carpet and taking the cap off was the plug to the fuel level guage not the fuel pump. the fuel pump is under a cover right behind the right rear tire, in what looks like the corner of the fuel tank. There are 2 or three screws that hold the cover on back there. don't remember exactly right now. glad it started for you!

Denis,

The speed and reference sensors connect to the main engine harness at the back of the engine (behind the intake manifold). The connectors and the wires into the engine harness tend to get brittle over time. Heat and ambient air humidity tend to affect the connections. Next time this happens, try wiggling the connectors. It works for me everytime. However, I'm getting tired of popping the hood to wiggle the wires each time this happen, so I will probably redo the whole wiring from the connectors on through to the DME.

Regards,

Andre
