I've been putting all the pieces back together, and after trying to crank it for the first time all that happens in the starter spins.

I popped off the starter and it appears everything in the clutch looks fine. I noticed the ring gear sits a little less than an inch back into the bellhousing, but the starter gear only seems to go about 3/4inch deep. The two don't seem to be even touching.

Does anyone have any ideas whats going on here?
Everything looks correct to me.

The starter is new so it could be the wrong part number...

 

nevermind... the switch was wired to the wrong post so it was spinning but not engaging.
