Jaak: It does not sound meaner at all. It sounds like a small yet quiet jet engine when running down the Autobahn and when I'm at idle it just sounds natural. You may have noticed on another post that this is my first 951 which I got a couple of weeks ago so long term exposure to hearing the engine is fairly new to me but all in all it just sounds so natural. I'm sure there is a few decibel difference but if I think about all the other 951's I drove during my 2 year search I really can't tell.

My 89 has no hood liners. The only downside I can tell is that any sort of good wax I put on the hood does not last past one washing. I got the stuff to try Zaino Bros next.
