You can get that gunk off, but let me tell you it takes about a day. I cleaned mine and it turned out great, although it did take forever. My paint is fine as well and black is the worst color as far as showing blemishes.

Friends garage uses brake cleaner ... glue comes off easy. The old foam can be removed with a shop vac.

BTW how many here do not have a hood liner?

Rob Budd, the guy that did my leather dash, has some cool hood liners available.

I haven't tried it myself but I've read good things about them on the 928 forum. You can do plain black, black with silver crest or black with red crest.

I bought a gallon of Xylene at Home Depot. The glue Porsche used for the rear seats is 'poopysnot' and Xylene strips it off like buttah. I was amazed, a stiff brush soaked in xylene and a dry cotten towel removed all traces of adhesive prior to appying the foil insulation for my rear seat/package tray project. If you have any xylene left over, put it in the tank and turn up the boost!

Interesting. Did it strip the paint at all? When I did mine, it seemed anything strong enough to work fast seemed to take paint with it. Anyhow, when the factory pads are new, they look good to me -- its just when they get old and ratty that they look bad....

Jaak: I don't have a hood liner. Not sure if I want to put one on or not. I see no issue with the paint on the hood but if someone suggest otherwise I might just install it.

No liner, never had one. Dark blue with no hood paint problems.

For what it's worth, PET refers to them as "sound absorbers"

The xylene doesn't do damage to the paint at all, it just cleans it. It's removed any adhesive Porsche has used so far. It's not cheap but it can always be used in the tank if you don't want the leftover stuff sitting in a can.

Tom ... I believe that's what it was used for. I have noted that others do not use one or never had one.

I'll see if others have one or if they removed it, what the difference has been.

Tom noted it was called a sound absorber ... does yours sound a little meaner?
