?? Leaking Wastegate
This may be a stupid question, but here goes anyway. I am changing out my exhaust on a 89 944 turbo, getting rid of the cat. When I was reattaching my cat-delete system I am having a hard time getting the wastegate exhaust to seal with the back half of the system, I think I have the wrong crush collar. Anyway, with the motor idling, I feel a leak around this joint. Is there supposed to be any exhaust coming from the wastegate at idle?

If you have a leak after the wastegate, it's not a performance problem (though could be a safety issue as the fumes can enter the cabin). If the leak is between the crossover pipe and the wategate, then, yes, you're losing boost and should fix it.

Wastegate leak
I guess my I should have phrased the question differently. With the car at idle, should the wastegate be allowing any exhaust to be passing out towards the muffler? There seems to enough flow through the wastegate outlet so that I was able to notice the leak at the pipe coupling.

At idle, the WG should be closed therfore, all gases should be going through the turbo before entering hte exhaust. If gases are making it though the WG at idles, it seems to indicate a leaking or stuck open WG. How did the valve look when you reinstalled it?
