Unhappy Wastgate Problem - Need Help!

I am installing Welt chips which require the WG be shimed, and come with a shim plate. I was following the directions on Clark's Garage. I removed the wastgate valve like it said, but now I can't get it to thread back into the WG, even if I leave the shim out. Any ideas on how I can force the diaphram down so that I can screw the valve in? I can't presurize it, because with the valve out the threaded part at the center of the diaphram is open, so it doesn't hold air.

in reality its a real pain in a *** to install shims because when i had my wastegate shimmed it just bled off anyways so i went with a tial and man i mean a whole world of difference. I would keep this option in mind before finishing putting your wastegate back together. On the other hand sorry i couldn't help with installed shims since the PO did my shims
