How much HP can K26/6 max out?
Hi,
I have Tial WG, Guru chips, LR stealth MAF, MAFterburner and stock K26/6.
My last dyno @14.7psi got 250Whp, i just wonder what kind of power do i get
after maf and run at same boost level.
Thanks,
Jim

The K26/6 is a poor choice if you want a lot of power since you will force it do something into doing what it is neither designed or supposed to do. With all the backpressure it produces it will probably not be a long lasting experience.
Be nice to your engine and get a turbo suited for it.

There was a thread back in May about maxing out the k26/6. Search for "15psi stock WG vs 15psi Dual. vs. 17psi." by 95one. The dynos where changing out stock for DP WG and PSI, but the conclusion of the thread is that the 26/6 maxes out at about ~250hp. I'm sure there are people that have fingered out some tricks around that, but most are far harder to implement than upgrading to a bigger turbo. With your list of current upgrades, I would think a bigger turbo would give you a big jump in HP. Good Luck!

We had a 26/6 (86 951) put down about 280rwhp with a nice curve. He did have some internal work in the upper end of the engine, as well as a MAF, 3" exhaust, chips, etc, at 17psi. Usually 250whp is stretching it, the previous owner may have had something done to the turbo, you never know.
I have run my 26/6 at about 17 psi for about a year now, and it is done (252whp, 271tq). It has not held up to the abuse, lol. Which was kind of the point i guess Hybrid turbo, here I come......It still makes good boost, but is starting to smoke under hard boost pretty bad.

PorschhhhhJohn (Texas John) I think has the record at 301whp/340rwq.
BUT I am not sure if that was concluded as being a #6 or #8

Is the backpressure much lower on a 26/8? What about 27/6?

Your just running the compressor side past it's efficiency range. To much pressure and overspinning it. That little compressor can only safely compound a certain amount of air. After that it starts to super heat the air and the intercooler can't sufficiently cool the air that is being fed into the engine. The intercooler part is just a guess. I'm not sure it's efficiency range and haven't put air temp sensors before and after the intercooler to confirm.

Oh, i'm sorry that, my last dyno @250rwhp was without MAF and Mafterburner. If i run 16psi can i get 270-280? i know it bigger turbo will give me extra power but i want direct bolt-on turbo with no modification needed. I did search for K27/6 this turbo is reasonable but still need to bend water pipe.
Do you know any turbo with direct bolt-on?
Thank you very much for your input,
Jim

It is definitely either a cheater or an outright #8 hotside. The dyno curves show the tq hitting too late for a #6, and more in line with a #8. Plus he uses water injection. Laust also has gotten 300rwhp IIRC using water/meth on a K26/6 and running into the 20's of boost.
With a stock 26/6, I had gotten a max of 260 rwhp with 17# boost. Anything above that and only the tq will go up, not the HP unless you can cool the charge using water/meth.

Yea, you just make more heat and no more hp.
Yep, WI is a way around that issue, and Laust was running direct port WI, which is far more involved but more benficial though.
You have to find your effort/cost point that you want for the results.

John was who I was refering to. I would definetly say that anything above 15 psi on a stock turbo is to much. BTW, John was running well into the 20's I believe. ( don't quote me on that)

The compressor from the k26/6 has a rating of 390 to 400 CFM give or take a bit. This translates to about 300 - 320 crank hp at sea level. Any engine which has this turbo connected to it will have this max power. No amount of headwork, water injection, exhaust, etc will change that.
However, yes, torque can go up in the mid RPMs with increased boost and/or other above mentioned mods.
