Default XP: Problem installing oil pump sleeve.

I'm trying to install the new crank sleeve that drives the oil pump. I can't seem to get it to slide all the way in. It will go in most of the way but is about 1/2" short. I don't think the teeth are engaging the oil pump as I can turn it by hand (or is this normal?). I keep trying to turn as I'm pushing it in in order to make sure it's in all the way but it won't go any farther. I know it's a problem as there is not enough room on the crank to installe the belt pulleys.

Any ideas?

Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. I fooled w/that thing for 45 minutes. I took it out twice, I rotated it, went and measurure the one on my 924S, even measured the grove to see how much I needed to get in there. It seems like the teeth line up w/the pump teeth. I finally got so flustered that I put the pully on and slowly tightened it until the thing popped in!! I know that sounds dangerous, but nothing else worked. Everything is OK! Sometimes you just gotta go for it!!

I managed to get it. It took a little dirty talk but I got it.
