Default Retapping exhaust stud treads into the head - Any Experience?

The second exhaust stud from the front of the engine has completely pulled out of the head leaving only one stud holding on the header to the front cylinder. It is finally starting to leak significantly (no real boost loss, but I can hear it at startup) I do have access to a backup head, but would prefer not to have to pull the head if I don't have to. I was told that because the head is alluminum, that it is difficult to retap treads into it. Has anyone successfully retapped any of their exhaust studs?? & was it possible without removing the head from the car?

Thanks in advance!

pull the head and have it helicoiled/timecerted.
Its too tight to do a good job with the head inplace.

It's a metal coil that screws into a threaded hole and basicaly creates a new thread for it. I've got one for one of my exahust studs and haven't had any problems with it. Chris is right that it's a pretty tight area to work in without pulling the head though.

I helicoiled one or two of mine with the head off. Easy job off the car, not sure if it can be done on the car.
